The T.R. Sanctuary (for Humans) — $5
PRESS RELEASE. On April 22, at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary in Oyster Bay Cove, New York a group of our neighbors became the first to enjoy the new Oyster Bay sensation: Woodland Yoga and Natural Music. Jeannine Smolinsky of Whole New World Yoga, and Glen Roethel, our own town troubadour brought yoga and music to the woods.
Ms. Smolinsky sums it up:
"We knew right away that the Sanctuary would be the perfect environment for natural, balancing exercise and acoustic music. The 'tree' and the 'mountain' are right at home in this fresh, forested place!"
Karl Brummert, the Acting Director of the Sanctuary, points out:
"Once it was donated to the National Audubon Society in 1923 by Emlen and Christine Roosevelt to honor their cousin, Theodore Roosevelt, the "conservation president," this quaint property became the first Audubon songbird sanctuary in the nation. We're very excited to bring acoustic performers and audiences to the Sanctuary — and Glen will be our first Musical Director!"
Glen Roethel adds:
"Our summer offerings will include Yoga Retreats, Workshops and a very exciting Campfire Coffeehouse series — we believe the very first concert/open-mic/songcircle of its kind in the area."
For the past three decades the Sanctuary has been a model environmental education center and a leader in natural science education on Long Island.
According to Mr. Brummert:
"Our goal is to protect and raise awareness of the natural world, with the hope that those who experience the Sanctuary through music, nature walks, yoga and our educational programs will help us to preserve and protect wildlife and habitats."
